FAQS
MASSAGE
What do I need to wear? Anything you like but it’s best to remain warm after the treatment, so bring cosy clothing, especially in winter. I’ll ask you to leave your underpants on for the treatment but you’ll remain covered by towels for the duration of the session. If you are more comfortable wearing more clothes, that’s fine too,
Will it hurt? If your body is presenting with pain then there will usually be some manageable pain felt in the process of releasing that. Using your breath will facilitate this and most people actually find it to be a pleasant process. I never aim to press harder than is absolutely necessary to facilitate pain release. I am really strong though, and can always adjust pressure so that it suits you, so please feel free to always speak up if it’s too much, or not enough! Manual Lymphatic Drainage is not painful and is a soothing treatment.
How often should I get a massage? This is the most common question I am asked. Everyone is different, and every problem is different, so the answer varies. My aim is to treat your issue in the fewest number of sessions possible. Sometimes this is just a single treatment. I build my reputation on word of mouth, so it is always good practice to get excellent results! I love getting to the point where you are no longer coming to fix chronic pain but simply because you enjoy the sessions and want to stay well ahead of injury, or wish to deepen your connection to your body. I like to involve you in the process; sometimes people choose to do their rehab or maintenance work on their own, and others like more consistent support. I have clients who come weekly, monthly, or annually for an MOT. It’s really up to you. Occasionally for very chronic pain, it can be better economy to have a few sessions close together to really get on top of the problem but I will only suggest this approach if it is necessary.
Why is your shortest session 70 min? I get the best results from a slightly longer session. An hour is rarely enough to hear what’s going on for you, to get onto the table and then allow a little time at the end of the treatment to adjust back to the world. Bodies understandably need time to trust and soften. It’s false economy to rush this process.
Do I need to shave my legs? No. Don’t bother! I am not looking at this or anything else superficial;. I am not here to judge your body in any way, only to help it move more freely and for you to inhabit it more comfortably.
YOGA
Do I need to be flexible / thin / young to do yoga? No. We will begin wherever you are at. I want you to feel safe, and develop your own connection to your body. This can happen regardless of the physical state, or age, of it. I’ve taught people who were bedridden, morbidly obese, in wheelchairs, over 100 years old, professional athletes, dancers, yoga teachers, and plenty of students who couldn’t touch their toes. Yoga is for everyone,
What do I need to wear? Something comfortable that allows you to move, and that you are comfortable bending forward in. Leggings or tracksuit bottoms work really well. Bring something warm for the relaxation.
Do I need my own mat? No, just let me know so I can make sure I bring an extra one
MASSAGE TRAINING
Do I need to have any experience? No, but the more massage you receive, the more you will understand the nuances of giving massage. All you need for the Massage Certificate weekend is a willingness to learn, and an interest in connecting with others. All participants receive 2 discounted treatments from me and lots of hands on experience during the workshop.
Is the course difficult? There is a lot of information and the days are fairly full, but it all comes down to practice, and a willingness to learn. It is not academically difficult and there are no exams at this level.
