I was born and grew up in Zimbabwe, and have traveled all over the world. I've lived in the UK since 2008.
I've been working in the fields of physical fitness and teaching since very early on, teaching horse riding and later as a Personal Trainer and Spinning Master Instructor. I worked for a successful HIV and AIDS fundraiser as a Rider Coach in the late '90's in California, and did an Ironman triathlon in 2000. My first yoga class was part of training for Ironman. Despite the class being listed on the timetable as "advanced" I mistakenly thought yoga couldn't be anywhere near as challenging as triathlon, so my introduction to yoga was the full Ashtanga Primary Series. Suffice to say this practice takes even the most gifted students around a year to come to terms with. I wasn't particularly gifted! I left with a new respect for yoga and some pretty sore muscles, but it fascinated me and I eventually became a very dedicated Ashtanga practitioner, studying with some of the best teachers in the world and working into the Advanced series.
I began getting regular massage for various sports injuries and did my first massage training courses in 2001. I decided to study again in 2006 when the gaps in my knowledge became clearer and so I was able to get a huge amount out of my Remedial Massage Diploma at that point. Working as a massage therapist has been a continual evolution for me and I feel privileged to do this work which is so based on trust, and feels more necessary than ever.
I love learning and developing different skills. Some of my favourite classes have been in life drawing and opera singing, but my first and enduring love is horse riding.
OK, enough! These bios are tricky to write; I'm probably better described by the testimonials dotted around this site than by my own words. I've naturally only included the most flattering ones! Thanks for visiting the site.
"I first came to Mysore Style classes via an introductory workshop. Cat started the workshop with a talk and I was instantly convinced that I wanted to learn yoga from her. I love her no-nonsense, open and honest approach to life. Her ability as a teacher to encourage, support and push you at the same time is amazing. She is incredibly insightful; she knows when my mind has wandered off, when I need assistance or when I need to try things myself. There is so much I have learnt about myself from being a part of the class – some good and some not so good! Cat has been there throughout encouraging me to do what I can each time I arrive at the mat. I feel privileged and thankful to be part of her class." - Alison B
